Jake Paul Says Fight with Gene Hackman “Still On.”
Jake Paul took to Twitter today to confirm that the "Paul v. Hackman" fight, scheduled for August, is "Still On."
The announcement raised some eyebrows, considering recent concerns about Gene Hackman’s training regimen and conditioning.
"Mike Tyson almost died last summer, and that didn’t stop me from kicking his ass," Paul boasted on Instagram Thursday night. "If Gene thinks he can wriggle out of this one by actually dying, he's underestimated his opponent greatly."
On paper, the Hackman fight seemed improbable. But given Paul's track record, it made perfect sense.
At 95, the retired actor falls squarely in the sweet spot of Paul’s preferred weight class: Famous and Frail. As a two time Oscar winner, he brings just enough name recognition to boost PPV sales. And as a recently deceased man, he represents Paul's ideal opponent. One with absolutely no chance of fighting back.
When asked about concerns over Hackman’s ability to enter the ring, Paul remained defiant: "Look, if he can’t make it, we’ll do it Weekend at Bernie’s style. Either way, I'm getting my KO."
